Three Green Flags will fly on a special day for the city’s parks

A special occasion is on the way later this month to celebrate three of Lincoln’s favourite parks gaining the prestigious Green Flag.

Hartsholme Country Park, Boultham Park and The Arboretum have all received the Green Flag Award this year, putting them alongside some of the best parks and green spaces in the world.

The award is the benchmark for parks and green spaces, and is given to those that are well-managed and accessible to all.

This is the first time that all three of Lincoln’s main parks have won the award, with the recent restoration and improvement works meaning that Boultham Park has its Green Flag for the first time ever.

Caroline Bird, Community Services Manager said:

Lincoln prides itself on having some wonderful open spaces, and the awarding of the Green Flag proves that people in Lincoln are benefitting from green spaces of the highest quality.

“We want to use this occasion to thank our Park Advisory Groups and all of the brilliant volunteers who give of their time and energies so that we can all enjoy these beautiful parks which are so good for our wellbeing, for wildlife and for community events.”

Run by Keep Britain Tidy, the Green Flag Awards recognise outstanding parks and outdoor areas all over the world.

Starting in England in 1996, the green flag now flies in more than 15 countries with 1,658 winners this year alone.

To mark this very special occasion, we will be hoisting three ‘Green Flags’ onto masts at all three parks on Wednesday 24 July. The Arboretum flag will be raised at 11am, and Boultham and Hartsholme flags will be raised at 2:30pm. The three flags will be raised by the three Park Advisory Group Chairs, and it will be broadcast live on the City of Lincoln Council Facebook page.
