#PerfectParks

Green Flag Award have launched their #PerfectParks challenge

The campaign is a bid to counteract feelings of isolation during the COVID-19 global pandemic, whilst recognising the importance of parks. The challenge calls upon people of all ages – especially families with children –  to create pictures that celebrate the features that would make up their ‘perfect park’.

Coronavirus / covid-19 update

Please note that events / activities / volunteering groups are being cancelled from Monday 23rd March (some sooner), until further notice. We are sorry to have to take this step but in light of the most recent government advice it is the right thing to do, to delay the spread of the disease and protect those people in the ‘vulnerable’ categories.

We look forward to reinstating our activities, and to starting the exciting programme of events through the lake restoration project later in the year.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

First of the new trees in Boultham Park

Councillor Bob Bushell planted a tree on 10th February to mark the start of the Boultham Park  Lake Restoration project, and to celebrate the Council’s commitment to the Woodland Trust Tree & Woodland Charter.

Representatives of Woodland Trust, Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust and Boultham Park Advisory Group were there to celebrate, alongside local residents, councillors and council officers.

The event launched the lake restoration project which has now started with tree removals and tree planting during February. If you’d like to join volunteers planting trees in Boultham Park please contact Al, our Volunteer Coordinator (details on the volunteering page).

Councillor Bushell, Portfolio Holder for Remarkable Place will plant the tree to celebrate the start of the Boultham Park Lake Restoration Project. This will also mark the City of Lincoln Council’s commitment to the Woodland Trust Tree and Woodland Charter.

The tree will be planted at the edge of the park – near to the bandstand – at 11am.

We hope you can join us.

Lake Restoration Project – tree works – drop in session 4th February in the Cafe

Tree removals and replanting will take place in the park from 10th February. These works are necessary for the success of the lake restoration project. Trees are being removed where they are breaking through lake bank edges, where the tree is not a healthy specimen, and / or in order to let more light in to wooded areas.

We will replant at least as many trees as we remove.

Our plans are supported by Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust and are in accordance with the recommendations from the most recent Ecology Survey. The are part of our overall plans to improve biodiversity in and around the lake through this NLHF / City Council funded project.

If you’d like to know more about the tree works, we’re having a ‘drop in’ session in Boultham Park Café, Tuesday 4th February, 2-4pm.

If that time doesn’t suit you, get in touch with us and we’ll be happy to arrange a chat at your convenience.
