Photography Competition now open !

 

With a second lock-down underway, the Boultham Park Lake Restoration Project team has launched a photography competition to encourage people in the area to enjoy the great outdoors.

Running from Monday 9 November until midnight on Sunday 6 December, the competition images will be used to create a 2021 calendar celebrating the historic park.

Lake Restoration Project – we’d like to know your thoughts on our art and interpretation plans

As part of the lake restoration project, we’re telling the stories of the lake, through art and information panels.

We wanted to know what you thought about our plans for art and interpretation so we were in the park on Monday 27th of July and Thursday 30th of July to speak to you, and despite the rain many of you provided valuable feedback which helped us understand what you thought of the proposals.

Tell us what you think about our Interpretation plans for the lake project

As part of the lake project we will install five individual art panels, each with an associated information panel. They will help tell the lake’s story, its biodoversity, its history and how people can get involved to protect and enhance the lake’s habitats and wildlife.

The panels and information boards will create an attractive and interesting trail alongside the lake edge pathways.

Have you got any old photos or memories to share?

As part of the Lake Restoration Project we would love to build on our archive.

Thank you to those people who have already contributed photos, postcards and old documents. See the ‘History’ tab for a link to the digital archive.

Do you have memories of the park that you would be happy to share with us? Some old family photos or a Boultham Park postcard? We’d love to hear from you. With your permission, we will add them to our archive. We might even use them as part of the lake restoration project activities, or in the information boards.

Since we started collecting your personal histories back in June, we have been lucky enough to hear some fantastic tales of how different generations enjoyed the lake – from childhood to their later years.

We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has been kind enough to share their memories and experiences of the lake. Your histories provide first hand evidence of the past and these special stories can now be passed down from one generation to the next. Thank you.

Play area to reopen on 4th July

In accordance with covid-19 Government guidance, outdoor play areas can reopen from 4th July where it is safe to do so. Boultham Park play area is one of a limited number of play areas that will reopen in Lincoln from that date.

Please be aware of the following strict requirements:

  • Do not visit the play area (or the park) if you have covid-19 symptoms
  • There will be a limit to the number of people allowed in the play area at any one time
  • If people are waiting to get in please limit the amount of time you spend in the play area
  • Maximum one accompanying adult per child
  • Social distancing of 2m must be maintained at all times
  • No eating or drinking in the play area
  • Don’t touch you face until you have washed your hands
  • Wash hands or use hand sanitiser straight after use

Boultham Park Cafe open for takeaway!

We are very happy that the Boultham Park Cafe has reopened this week, for takeaway refreshments. Covid-secure arrangements are in place.

Lincoln City Half Marathon Postponed

Due to Covid-19 the Lincoln City Half Marathon, for which Boultham Park was going to be the race village, has been postponed.

A press release from Lincoln City Foundation explains:

 

Lincoln City Foundation have announced that their flagship event for their charity due to take place on Sunday 20 September 2020 will be postponed until Sunday 19 September 2021.

Charlotte Hornsby, Operations Manager at Lincoln City Foundation said: “It is with regret we have to make this announcement.

“Alongside our event partner Curly’s Athletes, we have explored every possible option to guarantee the safety of our participants, community supporters and staff team, which has always been, and remains our number one priority.

“The support we have had from Lincolnshire County Council and City of Lincoln Council has been phenomenal and we all remain committed to bringing this event to the city next year, with an exciting route that providers runners with a true Lincoln experience.”

The Foundation have a mission to create and provide opportunities that inspire and empowers individuals and communities to develop and improve their physical, social or mental well-being.

Like many charitable organisations, the Foundation have been hit hard since the Coronavirus outbreak and many events of this nature around the UK have been cancelled or postponed.

Charlotte continued: “Sometimes the right decisions are the most difficult. On behalf of the half marathon team and Curly’s Athletes I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has shared in our passion and enthusiasm for the event, offered support and helped us in our consultation with businesses and communities.

“We hope that you will join us in 2021 and beyond, and you continue with us on the journey to bring this event to our amazing city year-on-year.”

National Volunteer Week – thank you to all our volunteers

As it’s National Volunteers week, we would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to our volunteers for all their hard work, enthusiasm and dedicatioon to Boultham Park and our city’s green spaces!!!
Volunteers have yet again made a huge impact over this past year, working within Boultham Park, Hartsholme Country Park, Birchwood Nature Park, Swanholme Lakes Local Nature Reserve and the South and West Commons.
Although all works and projects are currently on hold due to the Covid 19 virus, our volunteers are ready and eagerly waitng (with shovels and saws in hand!) to return and continue the good work where they left off.
Volunteering can bring huge benefits in terms of physical and mental health and this is something we will be promoting in our recruitment campaign when we are able to fully return to our green space sites. And there will be lots of opportunities to volunteer as part of the lake restoration project!

Happy Birthday Boultham Park!

On this day 91 years ago Boultham Park opened to the public.

In recent years we’ve marked the day one way or another… you might remember in 2018 when we celebrated the ‘grand reopening’ of Boultham Park after its restoration. Thousands of people came to enjoy a beautiful sunny day, picnics, music, the Royal Wedding and FA Cup Final on a big screen. The cafe was buzzing, the ice cream vans couldn’t cope with demand!

 

 

Last year Lincoln’s Mayor visited and we marked the park’s 90th birthday with music from Lincolnshire Hospitals Band and Boultham Park cakes in the cafe.

 

We had great plans for this year’s birthday celebrations, but of course they had to be dropped because of Coronavirus restrictions.

 

However there is always next year. The wonderful thing about our parks is that they serve the community year after year, generation after generation. Boultham Park will still be there waiting for our events and celebrations when this is all over.

In the meantime, please continue to enjoy the park, safely, and let’s look forward to a time when the community can all come together again in Boultham Park and Lincoln’s other wonderful parks and open spaces.
